The New Logo

2011-04-22 Jason Random Thoughts

First off, thanks to everyone who made suggestions and offered advice.

I had originally intended to make several logos and try them out.  In fact, I did make several, but once I had them all made I started ruling many of them out.  Some of the more traditional “zombie” fonts I threw out because they were too common.  Other fonts just ended up not really having the feel I wanted once I got past the initial “I like this font” opinion.  Ultimately, I ended up picking a font called Breakaway.  And with a slight modification to the original picture logo (I shifted the zombie down and added a cross-hair), I wound up with this:

But I felt the header of the page needed something more.  The original header had a gray background shade to it, but that just seemed a bit bland.  I wanted to go darker, but I didn’t just want a flat dark color.  Then I remembered that during my digging around on dafont I had stumbled onto Passarela, which is a font made of people.  Now, a number of those characters are ladies in hats and other things, but there ended up being about a dozen or so of people just standing or walking, without accessories.  So I went to Google, looked up random string generators, put in the letters for the characters I liked and a healthy number of spaces, and I came up with three random dispersions of figures.  I layered them, put them in black, did a green-black gradient for the background and ended up with this:

With the new text and picture overlaid on this background, I think it gives a nice zombie flavor without being quite so obvious or in-your-face.

I’m really quite happy with it.  Now, on to the next project…

Help me design…

2011-04-07 Jason Site News

I’m wanting to make some changes around the old blog.  Nothing super drastic.  I’m actually going to stay with the same theme, I just want to liven it up, so to speak.

That said, one of the things I want to do is craft a new logo.  It might actually be the same logo in a different size, but for certain I want to spruce up the actual name of the blog.  “Aim for the Head” it will remain, but I want to do it in a cool new font.  To that end, I need help.  If you wish to assist me, and you have some time, go here and sift through all the fonts.  That link will take you to dafont.com, with “Aim for the Head” as sample text, free fonts only, showing variants, and fonts that begin with the letter A.  Feel free to expand through the other letters, but stick to the free fonts.

Just leave your suggestions in the comments.  Thanks.

Under the Hood

2006-04-02 Jason Site News

You probably won’t notice much at all, but I decided today to upgrade to the latest version of WordPress. While from the outside it all looks pretty much exactly the same, under the hood the upgrades are many and sweet. Writing posts has become alot easier and quicker, and with the addition of Widgets, maintaining the sidebar no longer requires me to actually modify the base code files.

Awesome.

Well, I’m off to continue doing other things, one of which might just be making a new logo image. Enjoy.
