In the Dark

I sit alone in the dark. I hear the sound of my own breath, the beating of my own heart, the blood rushing through my veins, the deafening roar of silence. For a moment, in all the confusion, I think I hear her voice. She whispers sweet in my ear again. I close my eyes and instantly am back in her arms, being held tightly and holding tighter in return. She tells me of her love for me while her warm breath tickles my ear. The heating fan shuts off and my ear grows cold and the whispering stops with the wind. She is gone again. I return to myself. I sit alone in the dark.
