First off, thanks to everyone who made suggestions and offered advice.
I had originally intended to make several logos and try them out.  In fact, I did make several, but once I had them all made I started ruling many of them out.  Some of the more traditional “zombie” fonts I threw out because they were too common.  Other fonts just ended up not really having the feel I wanted once I got past the initial “I like this font” opinion.  Ultimately, I ended up picking a font called Breakaway.  And with a slight modification to the original picture logo (I shifted the zombie down and added a cross-hair), I wound up with this:
But I felt the header of the page needed something more. Â The original header had a gray background shade to it, but that just seemed a bit bland. Â I wanted to go darker, but I didn’t just want a flat dark color. Â Then I remembered that during my digging around on dafont I had stumbled onto Passarela, which is a font made of people. Â Now, a number of those characters are ladies in hats and other things, but there ended up being about a dozen or so of people just standing or walking, without accessories. Â So I went to Google, looked up random string generators, put in the letters for the characters I liked and a healthy number of spaces, and I came up with three random dispersions of figures. Â I layered them, put them in black, did a green-black gradient for the background and ended up with this:
With the new text and picture overlaid on this background, I think it gives a nice zombie flavor without being quite so obvious or in-your-face.
I’m really quite happy with it. Â Now, on to the next project…
I really like the subtle crowd in the back there. Initially I was going to suggest another crosshair in the O of “for”, but I didn’t think it would work well in any of the fonts you picked.
So yeah, looking good. 🙂
The crowd is my favorite part.
I actually considered a cross-hair for the O as well, but as you note, it didn’t look quite right for any of the fonts.
